Is Buying A New Rig Worth The Added Expense Versus A Pre-owned One?
It is the age old question, which is the smarter move, buying a new rig or a pre-owned one?
Naturally, if there was no price difference the odds are you’d just buy a new rig.
But as we all know, there is a price difference.
So the question now becomes, is the additional cost of a new rig worth the extra expense over a pre-owned heavy truck? Put another way, is “new” worth the additional cost.
Naturally, there is no perfect answer for this, because each situation is unique, however there are several advantages to buying new.
First when purchasing a new vehicle, there will basically be zero wear and tear on that unit. That means, you will be getting the maximum amount of life span out of each component on your rig and there should be few if any surprises. When considering something as valuable as a rig, knowing that the vehicle hasn’t been abused or misused is no small thing.
But there are benefits beyond this as well. New rigs come with warranties, so if (and when) an issue comes up, in most cases the warranty will cover it for you.
And if we were to try to give you one more reason, or perhaps consideration, we’d have to say “that new vehicle smell”.
Now you might be thinking this sounds frivolous, but don’t forget, a truckers their rig is their office, workspace, even bedroom.
They spend an enormous amount of time there most days of the week. Wanting something new that no one else has used really is a justifiable thing.
At the end of the day, yes there is an expense to a new rig when compared to a pre owned rig, and you have to decide for yourself if the cost is worth it, but we can see some pretty clear justifications to go with new versus used.
